Here is another “compare and contrast”. Look at the different treatment that Salakhova and Sergeyev give the subject, “the cart in winter”. To my eye, the Sergeyev is “busier”, whilst the Salakhova is more ruthlessly focused.

When I was posting the Salakhova pieces today, I was reminded of earlier works by some of the Peredvizhniki done in a similar style. Look at this work and compare it with Salakhova’s Thaw (2006). The similarity in technique and treatment of the subject is remarkable.

Meet the Artist: Yelena Salakhova

Yelena Salakhova was born in Moscow in 1960 and graduated from the Moscow Institute of Culture in 1987. She has taken part in several personal and group exhibitions. Her paintings are kept in private collections in Russia and other countries.
