A Summer Landscape (Vera Repina on a Bridge in Abramtsevo) (Ilya Repin, 1879)
This is a “compare and contrast” with A Sunny Day by Yelena Salakhova. Repin is quite as focused as Salakhova in subject treatment, but, I find his use of lighting and shading much more subtle. You can see why one of the graduate art faculties in Russia is named after him! Of course, I am attempting to show a continuity in a particular and unique Russian school of art.
