A Window Into a Lost World 2: The People of Tsarist Russia
Here is a young praporshchik or poruchnik (lowest commissioned ranks) of the First World War period. Did he survive the war? Did he fight for the Whites or for the Reds? Was he one of the émigrés or did he stay in the rodina? Was he one of the older White generation to survive into the sixties and seventies? We’ll never know… pictures don’t speak, do they?
