This appears to have been taken at the turn of the 20th century, in the studio of A. Vedernikov in Yekaterinburg. It seems to be a father-and-son pair of the merchant class. Were they in trade or did they run a hotel or were they skilled craftsmen with their own shop, with assistants and apprentices? There is no doubt that they either fled with the White armies or were repressed by the Reds. They were “socially unfriendly” elements, after all…
